May Reader's Challenge: For My Mother With Love

Hello everyone!  It is Tammy Tutterow here with you today!  I am so excited to be sharing with you a card tutorial featuring a fun mix of dies.  I am also so excited to introduce our new monthly reader's challenge!  We are inviting you to create something during the month of May and to share it with us!  More details about that down below....

But first, I have a tutorial for you featuring the Fancy Frames Flip-Its die.  Cards are always a challenge for me and I love any product that makes them quick and easy.  Flip-Its are not only quick, they are easy and are such a great base for any card design.

Begin by die cutting double sided heavy patterned paper using the Flip-Its die.

Fold the card along the fold lines.  Use an ink blending tool to apply Vintage Photo Distress Ink to the card edges.

Ink a large background stamp (Hero Arts Tiny Ink Spots Background) with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  Stamp a pice of scrap manila cardstock.  Die cut three sets of leaves, loopy flower, and petaled flower (Sizzix Thinlits Fancy Labels and Flowers).

die cutting

Before die cutting with Thinlits dies, you may find it helpful to add a small piece of ejection foam on the die.  Peel back a corner of the adhesive side of the foam.  Place a corner of the die blade side down onto the adhesive side of the foam.  Replace the backing paper.  Place the dies in the Sizzix Sandwich and run through the Big Shot die cutting machine.  The small bit of foam will remain inside the die and help you remove your die cut pieces in the future.  Save the extra foam for other dies.

After die cutting, use an ink applicator to apply Distress Inks to the die cut pieces.  (Leaf- Peeled Paint and Vintage Photo.  Large flower- Aged Mahogany and Vintage Photo.  Small flower- Victorian Velvet, Scattered Straw, and Vintage Photo.)

Stamp three sets of small flowers from the Stamps with Banners Stamp and Framelits set using Broken China Distress Ink on a scrap of manila cardstock.  Use a sticky note to hold the Framelits dies in place as you pass them through the Big Shot.

Stamp a banner using Worn Lipstick Distress Ink.  After die cutting, ink the edges of the banner with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Adhere two leaves to the front of the card.  Trim the ends of the stems as shown.

Create three sets of layered flowers (one large, one medium, and one small flower).  Place a brad through the center of each layered stack.  Place a brad through the center of two small stamped flowers.  Adhere two of the assembled flower stacks and the two small flowers with brads to the card front using the brads.  Add the third leaf die cut to the front of the card to the right of the flowers.

Tuck the banner under the edge of the flowers.  Adhere it in place over the top of the third set of leaves.

Die cut two pieces of pattern paper using the Fancy Labels Framelits set.  Choose the one that matches the label on the Flip-its card and one size smaller.  Apply Vintage Photo Distress Ink to the edges of both pieces.

Adhere the two labels together.  Adhere the assembled labels to the inside of the Flip-its card so that they cover the brads from the flowers on the cover.

Open the card flat.  Place a strip of Tissue Tape along the bottom of the card.

Place a strip of thin double sided adhesive tape on top of the Tissue Tape.  Lay a strip of dyed Crinkle Ribbon on top of the adhesive tape.  Wrap the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the card.  Add a small staple on each end of the ribbon.

Adhere a small Crinkle Ribbon bow to the front of the card near the center fold.

Use alphabet stamps to add a sentiment to the front of the card on the banner.

Add the remaining flower cluster and another sentiment to the inside of the card.

There you go, a fast and easy card that is full of sweet touches that any mother is sure to love!  For the May challenge, I want to see what you create with a Mother's Day or love theme using Sizzix products.  Use the linky tool below the supply list to share your project.  One lucky winner will receive a Sizzix prize pack!  You have until May 31st midnight PST to enter.  The winner will be announced June 8th when we announce the June challenge.

I can't wait to see what you create!
