Designer Profile: Els van de Burgt

In January at the winter CHA several members of the Sizzix team had the pleasure of meeting designer Els van de Burgt.  We were blown away by the projects she was creating by combining Sizzix dies and embossing folders with products from her Elizabeth Craft Designs line.  Since then, we have shared her creations and tutorials several times on our Facebook page.  Today I though our blog readers would enjoy learning more about Els and seeing some of her amazing creations!

Els van de Burgt is fluent in the universal language of crafts and creativity - along with English, Dutch and German. She is a prolific designer, talented artist, author of three craft books, a gifted and energetic teacher. She is also the owner of Elizabeth Craft Designs, with products that include Shimmer Sheetz (Iridescent, Metallic and Gemstones), Elizabeth Craft Designs peel-offs (stickers), Be Creative Tape, and Glittzer Ritz micro-fine glitter.

Els was born in The Netherlands and now lives in California, home base for her business. With a background in sales and marketing as well as a lifelong love of art and crafts, she is in her studio as often as possible, developing new sheets of peel-offs, creating projects for Facebook, working on tutorials, and planning classes.

Els teaches several days every month, logging many miles to share her ideas at stores and events across the US, Canada and Europe. Card making, paper crafts, mixed media, home decor, journal making, jewelry and other accessories - she is always ready to share her ideas and endless enthusiasm, and she does so via Facebook, Pinterest and www.elizabethcraftdesigns.com as well as through her classes.

The many ways she combines Shimmer Sheetz with Sizzix Bigz standard height dies, Sizzix Textured Impressions embossing folders and Tim Holtz Texture Fades embossing folders will knock your socks off and change the way you create projects!

Els said that the "exciting landscape" of her life is in two places: Her imagination and outdoors in nature. In the little free time she has, Els and husband Joep can be found swimming with the dolphins in the Bahamas or hiking along a narrow cliff, and Els once let a snake coil around her neck in Santa Barbara. But she mainly enjoys being at home. "I don't need to jump out of an airplane for excitement, I find it in the studio," she says. Els confided that "cooking skipped a generation" and said that her mom and both kids cook well. Fortunately, so does her husband.

There is a nice symmetry to Els's story - her childhood joy, coloring and making things out of beads, paper and other materials, has found a role center stage in her adult career - she has pens, dies, glitter and stickers in hand every day. Keep track of Els and Elizabeth Craft Designs on Facebook, Pinterest, and the web site www.elizabethcraftdesigns.com.

Finally today, a fun video tutorial from Els.  Enjoy!

I hope you enjoyed getting to know more about Els and seeing her amazing creations!  Be sure to follow Elizabeth Craft Designs on Facebook where Els shares not only great project inspirations, but many step-by-step project tutorials, many of which feature Sizzix dies and embossing folders.
