Hooray for the red, white and blue! Eileen Hull here...
The Fourth of July is a very special holiday to me. We are a military family with 20 years in the army, an army son (currently deployed in Afghanistan) and daughter and SIL both in the Coast Guard (who just had their first baby two days ago!).
Life in the military is hard to explain to those who have not experienced it, but it’s a very close community. We are family to each other when our own families are far away. Friendships are made very quickly because you only have a few years in one place before it’s time to move on.
The Fourth of July reminds me how lucky I am to live with so many freedoms and to celebrate all of the opportunties that we have living here.
Here's a patriotic ornament that I designed for Operation Write Home, an organization that "helps heroes keep in touch with home." They collect handmade cards and send them to soldiers to be used to stay in touch with their loved ones at home.
I used the Sizzix ScoreBoard Pro Die- House, 3-D to make my ornament. The bottom half of the house was covered with blue star paper and strips of red paper made stripes on top. I embossed the roof with a Textured Impressions folder and added a scalloped border strip around the middle. Added the logo as a hanger and that was it!
Here's a red, white and blue banner that I made using the Primitive Hearts die, my favorite Serif Essentials Alphabet and Buttons Galore and More buttons.
Many thanks to all who have served and for those who are currently serving in the military for keeping us safe and for all the sacrifices you and your families have made. Happy Fourth of July everyone!
Eileen
